Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk Line container vessels collided in the Suez Canal on Monday morning.
Hapag-Lloyd's 8,749-teu MV Colombo Express (built 2005) and the 8,112-teu MV Maersk Tanjong (built 2007) at Port Said.
MV Colombo Express was entering the Canal at the time of collision. No injuries or pollution have been reported. MV Maersk Tanjong was clearing the Suez Canal Container terminal to join a convoy.
3 containers have fallen from MV Colombo Express and the vessel has a 20-metre dent to its left side.
The Suez Canal Authority is currently trying to pick up the dropped containers from the eastern channel and both vessels will be moored at the canal lakes until the required investigations, paper work and maintenance have been completed. Hapag-Lloyd said both vessels are able to continue on their voyages. Events are currently being investigated.
