First "world-class" cruiseship to be built in China.

US giant Carnival Corporation is teaming up with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) to develop the first "world-class" cruiseship to be built in China. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state yard group paves the way for Carnival to stretch its reach in what it regards as a key growth market. The deal could also bring in Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, a cruiseship specialist.
Chinese market is expected to reach 4.5m passengers by 2020, according to the Chinese Ministry of Transport (MOT).
Carnival will help "define" the first major cruiseship built in the country.
Carnival Corporation will provide its ship design and shipbuilding expertise to "create the vision, definition and overall specifications,"
MoU also includes the exploration of other possible joint venture opportunities with CSSC, including the potential to form a domestic cruise company, port development, talent development and training, as well as supply chain and logistics.
“This is really a breakthrough day for all of us at Carnival, as well as our friends at the CSSC and all Chinese travellers who are increasingly turning to cruises for their vacation experiences,” said CEO Arnold Donald.
China wants to make build up the domestic industry, with investments in infrastructure planned.
