State Corporation of India (SCI)

Vishwapati Trivedi told the Business Line daily that the State Corporation of India (SCI) continues to perform well and there is no plan to privatise it. “It’s doing well. Why should we give it away? It will continue to be a government-run organisation,” he added. State Corporation of India (SCI) managing director AK Gupta said: “We are improving our performance every quarter, and we are in a good shape.” A privatisation has been on and off and on again a number of times in the last 20 years, but it seemed to finally die a death in 2004.
In September, the state told State Corporation of India (SCI) to cut losses by 10% or it could lose its "navratna" status for another year after three years in the red. A navratna company can take its own decision on projects worth up to INR 10bn ($165m).
