Western Bulk has hired David Swindoll from Bunge

David Swindoll will head up the new US business unit in Miami, which will take responsibility for activity in the US Gulf, the Caribbean and South America.
Jens Ismar, chief executive of Western Bulk, says Swindoll and his Miami colleagues will oversee activity on the volatile fronthaul route from South America to the Far East. The performance on this trade will be important as Western Bulk reduces its period contracts and increases its arbitrage business. Western Bulk was slipped to a deeper than expected loss in the third quarter.
Jens Ismar, chief executive of Western Bulk said m : “We had been too optimistic. We had taken a positive position, like many others, thinking this year would be good and it has not delivered. It has been a dreadful year market-wise. It dawned on us that we have to refocus and do more of what we have always done, with short and medium term arbitrage. That is where you have control and influence.Expectation was for this to be a strong year and it did not happen. In general, next year people are much more sober in terms of their expectations.”
