MUR Shipping and Phoenix Shipping debate on MV Intrepid

Greece’s Phoenix Shipping & Trading is in a chartering dispute with Dubai-based dry bulk major MUR Shipping.
As a result Phoenix Shipping’s Liberia-flagged 48,913-dwt MV Intrepid (built 1999) being arrested in Singapore by the instructions of local law firm Oon & Bazul.
MUR Shipping is seeking damages of $336,000 from the George Gourdomichalis-led Phoenix Shipping & Trading.
George Gourdomichalis says : "the ship’s registered owner, classic one ship company - Intrepid Shipping & Trading SA, has launched arbitration proceedings against MUR as early as June, seeking to recover about $103,000 in unpaid hire and bunker value adjustment. Unfortunately, MUR has seemingly opted to defend their position not in the legal fora allowed under the governing charter party but in an aggressive manner. Owners will be defending their claim in arbitration and will take all steps to release the vessel as soon as possible and to secure their rights accordingly"

MUR Shipping is the shipping arm of Macsteel International Holdings, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA), South Africa’s largest steel producer, and Macsteel Global SARL (Luxemburg), a global trading and distribution oufit.
