The Polish government signed a deal unions from Europe's biggest coal producer Kompania Weglowa to end protests against plans to restructure the company, but gave no details of the agreement. The government said this month it planned to shut down four of Kompania Weglowa's 14 mines in the south of Poland, leaving some 5,000 workers without jobs.
