Repairs are being carried out on a Chilean panamax bulker MV Loreto 77,000-dwt that suffered hull cracks after grounding at the end of 2014. MV Loreto (built 2004) hit a rock 102 nautical miles from Punta Arenas and was towed to Punta Arenas the next day after developing a list of eight degrees to starboard.
MV Loreto was carrying 70,000 tonnes of coal from Mina Invierno to Huasco.
Ballast tanks will be emptied and the ship righted. Repairs are estimated at two weeks. MV Loreto is listed as managed by Ultranav of Chile.
