22,735-dwt ro-ro Cape Ray (built 1977) led the operations at sea, destroying the most dangerous substances in Syria’s declared stockpile.
Secretary of defence Chuck Hagel called captain Rich Dromerhauser to congratulate him for accomplishing the mission, MARAD ( The US Marine Administration) said.
Chuck Hagel also commended the crew for conducting themselves in a highly professional manner, with strict adherence to safety and with no impact to the surrounding environment.
