China steel production 68.9mt in August

World’s largest steel producer China, saw output increase by just 1% to 68.9mt, according to the World Steel Association (WSA). World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the WSA was 135mt in August.
India and South Korea saw positive growth with output 7mt and 5.3mt respectively.
Japan produced around 9.3mt of crude steel last month.
Crude steel production figures out of the European Union made depressing reading with three of the main producers reporting declines in output.

France was 1.1mt. Germany was 3.1mt, while Spanish volumes shrank to 1.1mt.
Despite its slowing economy Turkey posted a healthy 13.9% increase in crude steel production for August of 2.9mt.
Ukraine produced just 1.8mt of crude steel.
USA production was 7.7mt, while Brazil was 2.9mt in August.
WSA has 65 member countries.
