Alfa Laval's new scrubbing system can knock $300 per ton off bunker bills, compared to low-sulphur fuel.
Alfa Laval's new exhaust cleaner called PureSOx 2.0 is now 15% smaller than the first version, which launched in 2009 and is fitted on 45 ships. New control system is 50% smaller. The cost-saving calculations are based on a vessel continuing to use heavy fuel oil, as opposed to switching to more expensive low-sulphur gasoil.
Alfa Laval's new technology is compliant with the enforcement of new rules for Emission Control Areas (ECAs) from January 2015.
