Polo Maritime wants more Eco Ships

Polo Maritime has just taken delivery of the last of six 37,500-dwt Sea Horse-type vessels from Qingshan Shipyard.
Polo Maritime now negotiating with the shipyard for delivery dates in 2016 and 2017.
The new delivery gives the Polo Maritime “about 20 units” trading in the Atlantic basin. The vessels were ordered at $22m each, but today could cost nearer to $25m each. Polo Maritime intends to also boost the fleet with more long-term time-chartered tonnage and to acquire vessels in the sale and purchase market, or through “strategic partnerships.” By the end of 2015 Polo Maritime expects the fleet to average less than two years of age and number about 35 handysize eco-ships.
Polo Maritime also operates in Belgium as Pola Maris and was established in 2006. Polo Maritime is controlled by Russian miner and steelmaker Severstal, and chief executive Alexey Mordashov is the majority shareholder.
