Rickmers-Linie will charge extra for emissions control area (ECA)

Rickmers-Linie is in the process of implementing a low-sulphur fuel surcharge for any shipments arriving or departing from an emissions control area (ECA) on 1 January or later.
Rickmers-Linie is the Hamburg-based operator of multipurpose and heavylift ships says it is supportive of rules that will drop maximum sulphur content to 0.1% from today’s 1% in ECAs beginning next year.
Low sulphur fuels are more expensive and growing demand is widely expected to further increase the costs of these fuels and Rickmers-Linie mostly calls at ECA ports in USA and Europe.
