Vale planning Shiprepair Yard in Brasil

Vale has signed a cooperation agreement that will see it support the Brasil Basin Drydock Company (BBDC)’s proposed shiprepair yard in Brazil.

Brasil Basin Drydock Company’s $700 million yard, to be named Empresa de Docagens Pedra do Inga (EDPI) will be South America’s largest repair site and will be able to handle Vale’s giant Valemax very large ore carriers (VLOCs) like MV Vale Brasil. Planned for northeastern Brazil in Lucena, near the port of Cabedelo, Paraiba state, the yard will have two large dry docks and one ship hydrolift/transfer facility. It will serve both domestic and international markets, with bulk carriers making up a substantial portion of its customer base.
