Maersk Broker is considering joining in the wave of mergers and acquisitions which is reshaping the European shipbroking scene. Braemar and ACM set the ball rolling with their $51m tie-up this summer, with Clarksons and RS Platou’s $441m deal and a pending union of Howe Robinson and ICAP Shipping accelerating the trend.
Anders Hald, chief executive of Maersk Broker, told Reuters: "We are looking into different kind of possibilities. We face growing demands from customers and the trend is that the biggest brokerage firms get bigger. We will come out with a very satisfactory result for 2014 but we must continually position ourselves for the future.Maersk Broker, one of the top five shipbrokers globally, was not up for sale."
