NYK - Japanese shipowner said Nemoto passed away on Sunday. Nemoto had only retired from his role as consultant and adviser to the group in March.
The Tokyo native joined NYK in 1952 after graduating from the University of Tokyo, becoming senior managing director, vice president and then president in 1989.
Nemoto became NYK's chairman in 1995 before easing back to take the role of honorary chairman in 2003. Nemoto also served as chairman of the now-defunct Japan Federation of Employers Association. NYK man received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure from Emperor Akihito in April 2000 and was known for his love of history.
