Australian miner Independence Group Ltd launched a friendly A$1.8 billion ($1.4 billion) stock and cash offer for Sirius Resources Ltd, aiming to boost its nickel exposure. The offer, which comes as Sirius prepares to develop a big nickel find in Western Australia, showed some miners are taking advantage of the current slump in commodities prices to beef up ahead of any upturn in the cycle.
