The incident involving the unnamed vessel occurred earlier this month while loading the commodity at anchor in Surigao.
Reports of the incident come just days after a crew was forced to abandon ship after the ship suffered a heavy list 225 miles south east of Taiwan.
The ship, Malaysia Bulk Carrier’s (MBC) 55,652-dwt Alam Manis (built 2007), had earlier loading nickel-ore at the same Philippine port.
The nickel-ore in two of the Singapore-flagged vessel’s cargo holds liquefied when the supramax encountered heavy weather.
Although the master headed for a port of refuge with an escort tug in attendance, the list increased. Sadly, one crewmember did not survive.
