Port Hedland is increasing Australian iron ore exports.

According to data from the Pilbara Ports Authority, total iron ore exports out of Port Hedland reached 39.2mt in August. China is taking a growing share of Pilbara iron ore exports, and 87% of the August exports were bound for China. Port Hedland has seen a tremendous growth in exports over the last year, and while the growth rate has slowed down, we still expect a steady growth in volumes going forward. Increasing Australian exports have to some extent replaced more distant volumes, both South American and West African iron ore, resulting in shorter average sailed distances for Chinese iron ore imports.
