Barge traffic stalled as boats run aground on Mississippi River

The U.S. Coast Guard closed a section of the upper Mississippi River to commercial traffic over the weekend for emergency dredging operations after a tow boat ran aground in low water near Quincy, Illinois, on Saturday. The closure, from mile marker 330.7 to 330.9, is expected to remain in place until at least Wednesday as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredges the river to deepen the waterway.
