The Portuguese-flagged 57,000-dwt Alexandrit (built 2010) was detained by Singapore's admiralty sheriff on Friday evening. The Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industries-built ship was arrested on the instructions of local Singapore law firm Oon & Bazul LLP. The exact details as to why the ship has been arrested remain unclear, but it is likely to be related to outstanding payments for services. Conti reportedly acquired the ship from South Korean shipowner Pan Ocean in September 2010 when it was originally called the POS Alexandrit.
