U.S. corn and soybean harvests likely remained ahead of the typical pace following a week of mostly dry weather around the U.S. Midwest. The U.S. Agriculture Department's weekly crop progress report was expected to show that corn harvest was 59 percent complete as of Oct. 18. The soybean harvest was seen at 79 percent complete. Estimates ranged from 75 percent to 81 percent for soy and 57 percent to 60 percent for corn. Analysts also predicted that the report would show winter wheat planting was 77 percent complete, with estimates ranging from 74 percent to 80 percent.
