Delay in Panama canal work

The construction consortium tasked with widening the Panama Canal has said that the project could face another six months of delay as a result of slow payment from the government, Giuseppe Quarta, executive director of Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC), told the EFE newswire that the Spanish-led consortium could turn over the project in April but further setbacks are possible as a result in delayed payments from the Panama Canal Administration (ACP) and slow bureaucratic processes. The Panama Canal expansion, the most significant upgrade of the waterway in a century, is 96% complete but has suffered numerous delays. It was originally scheduled to be complete in August 2014.
