The spot market for capesize bulkers continued its painful fall this week, with rates now far from covering operating costs. Avarage rates stood at $5600 per day, or $2000 per day short of the operating figure. So far, there are no signs of owners putting ships into cold layup but brokers say it is just a matter of time before this happens.
