The U.S. Department of Agriculture next month will tighten regulations for field trials of genetically modified wheat. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said it will require developers to apply for a permit for field trials involving biotech wheat planted on or after Jan. 1. Since 1997, such trials have been authorized by notification, a less stringent process.
