Baltic Exchange's Friday fixture reports that Norden fixed both the 81,900-dwt MV Ecofaith GO (built 2012) and 58,700-dwt MV La Carita (built 2009).
Panamax MV Ecofaith GO which is controlled by Gleamray Maritime of Greece, is widely believed to have commanded a rate of $9,250 per day for up to six months.
Supramax MV La Carita that Norden chartered from affiliates of Japanese operator Kambara Kisen fetched $15,250 per day in a fixture that will last for at least three months but no more than five.
Rate paid for the MV La Carita is in line with the current market average but claim it is well below what the unit would have made if it were trading in the spot market.
56,800-dwt MV Magic Striker (built 2010), for instance, commanded $24,500 per day in a deal with Noble, which hired the unit for a lone voyage from the US Gulf to Central America. Despite the turbulence that plagued the dry-bulk market for much of the week observers note freight rates for tonnage trading in the spot across the board today but admit its difficult to predict what will happen in the coming weeks and months.
