BSC orders 3 bulkers and 3 tankers

BSC, state shipowner, agreed a deal with China National Machinery Import & Export Corp (CNMEC) to build three 30,000-dwt tankers and three 30,000-dwt bulkers for $171m in May. But the country’s ministry of law and justice has now asked for clarification of the deal, as the Financial Express reported that BSC did not seek the ministry’s vetting of the contract. China’s Exim Bank is providing a loan for the ships, but has reportedly threatened to divert the money elsewhere if the order is not finalised this month.
BSC managing director Moqsumul Quader told the Financial Express that he had already sent a letter to the ministry of shipping giving replies to all queries.
